10% Progress in Holes, and 5 English Vocabulary Words to Wrap Up Friday Night
Hello! Finally, the long-awaited Friday night is here. Did everyone finish a busy week well?
After work, I caught my breath and lightly organized the things I need to do this coming weekend. It turns out there are more tasks piled up than I thought. Still, it felt a shame to just let Friday pass by, so I didn't skip my word study and reading practice today. Although it wasn't a massive amount, it’s a night filled with a small sense of achievement, knowing that I "managed to get something done without skipping today."
Today, I would like to share 5 useful words and idioms I found in context from the beginning of the book I am reading, "Holes."
1. 5 English Expressions Learned from the Context of Holes

- Example: The desert heat was unbearable, and at such times, Stanley desperately thought of his family.
③ Otherwise

- Example: You must dig one hole every day; otherwise, the Warden will not be pleased.

- Example: In a desolate place like this, you can only count on yourself and a true friend.
⑤ In a way

- Example: In a way, being sent to the camp was the beginning of changing his family's bad luck.
💡 Progress on Reading the Original Book: Bit by Bit Toward Completion
The book I am currently reading, "Holes," is far more exciting than I thought it would be. Since the sentences are not complex and are quite intuitive, a big advantage is that even if I encounter one or two unfamiliar words, I can read through smoothly by inferring them from the surrounding context.
Starting from today's progress, I have now passed about 10% of the total length. It’s a long way to go, but I intend to read step-by-step without obsessing over the speed.
What kind of book or content are you currently using to study? Whatever you have chosen, I hope we can share the joy of reading it through to the end without stopping.
Have a pleasant and relaxing weekend, everyone! I hope you take some time during the weekend to put your studies aside for a moment and give your brain a complete rest. You all worked so hard living fiercely throughout the week. Have a gentle weekend!
